Nico Hülkenberg is back!
With Sergio Perez unfortunately testing positive for COVID-19, Racing Point has replaced him for the British Grand Prix with Nico Hülkenberg!
Before proceedings got under way this weekend, Sergio Perez unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19 in F1's latest round of rigorous testing. Though he has not yet shown any symptoms, he and a handful of people he had been in contact with have gone into isolation and hopefully they'll all recover pretty quickly!
However, Racing Point left it until last minute before FP1 to announce the return of Nico Hülkenberg. This got us thinking though, this might be the first time Nico is in a car that can challenge for a podium! As many folks know, he's probably one of the best drivers to race in F1 to never make it to a podium position.
Incase you were wondering, a 177 starts with no podium. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate records to hold in F1 and one a driver of his talents does not deserve. I mean this is the man who put a subpar Williams on pole back in his debut season at the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix, so there is clearly pace and talent there.
In my view he was a little unfortunate to not be on the grid this season, let's say over a Grosjean or even an ever interest losing Kimi Raikkonen. However, this weekend see's him return to his former team for this and potentially next weeks 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. With a steady 11th place in FP1, this weekend might end up being a fruitful one should the Racing Point be completely wired again like in Hungary.
With his temporary teammate Lance Stroll showing top 4 pace so far, as the weekend progresses one can't help but wonder if Nico will potentially challenge for his ever podium! It would be the perfect story wouldn't it? A positive spin on an otherwise negative story regarding Checo.
Here's one F1 fan hoping the F1 God's part the field on Sunday and hands Nico a podium, would be thoroughly deserved and a little bit of poetic justice!
